Holotype locality: Ocean Beach, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia; (Woelkerling & Campbell 1992: 100) Holotype: C.J. Gabriel; April 1905; TRH; A3-149 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 41) Notes: Type pictured by Printz (1929, pl. LIV, fig. 1 as Lithophyllum) and Penrose (1990, fig. 54A-D).

Adjective (Latin), rocky, rock-dwelling (Stearn 1983).

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Occurs commonly on intertidal rock platforms (Penrose in Womersley 1996: 266).
