The type species (holotype) of the genus Scrippsiella is Scrippsiella sweeneyae Balech.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Scrippsiella acuminata (Ehrenberg) Kretschmann, Elbrächter, Zinssmeister, S.Soehner, Kirsch, Kusber & Gottschling.
