Taxonomic notes
John et al. (2004) cite Leathesia kuetzingii Hauck as a synonym of this species. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
"Fletcher (1987: 146) based the description of
Mycrocorine ocellata only on specimens held in
some English Herbaria. However, only the
smallest thalli illustrated in fig. 26/A correspond
to Strömfelt's species, while all others appear
significantly different from Strömfelt's species
and could belong to a different taxon. In fact,
specimens 1-2(-3) time forked illustrated in the
same figure seem compressed (cylindrical or
slightly club-shaped in Strömfelt's species).
Moreover, assimilatory filaments illustrated in
fig. 26 (D-E) are curved, 14-16 cells long with
the proximal 2-3-4 cells cylindrical and the remaining
elliptical, frequently asymmetrically
swollen (straight or slightly curved, cylindrical
or slightly club-shaped, with sub-cylindrical
cells in Strömfelt's description)." (Cormaci et al. 2012: 178). - (27 August 2015) - M.D. Guiry
