The type species (holotype) of the genus Cirrulicarpus is Cirrulicarpus gmelinii (J.V.Lamouroux) Tokida & Masaki.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhipidomenia polycoelioides (J.Agardh) G.W.Saunders.
