The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colaconema punctatum (E.Y.Dawson) J.N.Norris.

Type locality: Rocky south shore of Bahía Bocohibampo, Sonora, Mexico; Holotype: E.Y. Dawson; Feb. 12, 1946; Epiphytic with Kylinia secundata on the “leaves” of Sargassum; AHF; Dawson 462b (vial 1623; slides 929-931) (Dawson 1953: 25)
