The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colaconema comptum (Børgesen) I.-K.Hwang & H.-S.Kim.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), adorned, ornamented, with a headdress (Neal 1993).
