The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.

Type locality: Trieste, Italy; (De Clerck et al. 2005: 392) Notes: The type is that of the replaced name, Fucus filicinus Wulfen, nom. illeg., from the Adriatic.

Adjective (Latin), fern-like (Stearn 1983).
