Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ramicrusta calcea (Heydrich) K.R.Dixon & G.W.Saunders.

Type locality: "Auf Rhizomen von Zostera und grösseren Algen von den Tami-Inseln, Huon-Golf, Deutsch-Neu-Guinea." [Tami Island, Deutsch Neu-Guinea]; (Heydrich 1897: 10) Holotype: L; (Dixon & Saunders 2013: 103) Notes: Dawson (1953: 108): original holotype destroyed in Berlin in 1945; however, Dixon & Saunders (2013: 103) discovered a fragment of the holotype in herb. Weber-van Bosse (L).
