Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Mesogloia is Mesogloia vermicularis C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Eudesme virescens (Carmichael ex Berkeley) J.Agardh.

Participle (Latin), becoming green (Stearn 1983).
