Type locality: "On the muddy edges of Rivers, Ditches and Ponds." [no specific locality, Britain]; (Dillwyn 1802: pl. 20) Lectotype: LINN (now in BM); (Drouet 1968: 262) Notes: In the absence of a specimen in the Dillenius-Ray herbarium (OXF), a specimen labelled "Conferva limosa" in the set of Dillwyn Exsiccatae.
