Taxonomic note
According to Silva et al. (1996: 169), the name Gracilaria corticata has been misapplied to this species by Børgesen (1933b: 124 (at least in part)); the name Gracilaria corticatavar. ramalinoides has been misapplied to this name by Børgesen (1933b: 124-125 (at least in part)) and Børgesen (1935: 56 (at least in part)); the name Gracilaria multipartita has been misapplied to this species by G. Murray (1887: 27) and Jadin (1935: 165) - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Distributional note
According to Guiry & Freamhainn (1985), records from the N. Atlantic and Mediterranean refer to G. multipartita (q.v.) and not to this Indian Ocean species.
Edotor's note: Gracilaria foliifera, reported by Nguyen (1972) from Vietnam, is not listed in the text (Nyugen H. Dinh, 1992); perhaps the author meant to indicate that the specimen represented G. textorii instead (Abbott, 1992). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
