This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nitella flexilis (Linnaeus) C.Agardh.

Description
FROM ALLEN 1880 Two marked forms are found, one with elongated stems and long leaves (forma elongata) represetned in the plate: another not half the length or even a few inches long but of e spreading habit (forma brachyphylla).
