Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neogoniolithon brassica-florida (Harvey) Setchell & L.R.Mason.

Type Information
Syntype localities: "auf Steinen und Felsen bei Banguls" [Banyuls-sur-Mer Mediterranean France].; (Heydrich 1899: 212) Notes: Type: not designated (Woelkerling 1993: 50). TRH has one syntype (A28-1588): "Collection consists only of one slide marked ‘ex herb. Chalon ….. Heydrich type’. Word between ‘Chalon’ and ‘Heydrich’ is unclear]." (Woelkering et al. 2005:221).
