The type species (lectotype) of the genus Caulerpa is Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskål) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulerpa filicoides Yamada.

Caulerpa verticillata f. acuta Yamada

Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), acute, pointed; i.e. narrowing gradually and making an angle of less than 90° (Stearn 1973).
