Ceramium brachiatum Bonnemaison
Type Information
(Dixon & Price 1981: 135) Notes: Comments: the origianl treatment (Bonnemaison, 1828: 125) made reference to collections from three localities on the Atlantic or Channel coasts of France, to another from the Mediterranean, and to two specimens collected in the Canary Islands and the Cape of Good Hope. more significantly if placed in synonyms binomials which lead back to Conferva tetragona Withering and made no mention of the latter elsewhere in the text, so that these synonyms must be taken as references to type. There is no option but to dismiss Ceramium brachiatum as a superfluous and illegitimate name which must be typified by the type of Conferva tetragona.
