The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phyllotricha verruculosa (C.Agardh) R.R.M.Dixon & Huisman.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), covered with small wart-like outgrowths (Stearn 1983).
