Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Amphiroa is Amphiroa tribulus (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Amphiroa beauvoisii J.V.Lamouroux.
Type Information
Type locality: Bahía Petatlán, Guerrero, Mexico; (Taylor 1945: 189) Holotype: Schmitt no. 120C-33; 17 Mar. 1933; Some abundance along the shore inside the Morro de Petatlán; Hancock Foundation; (Taylor 1945: 189) Notes: According to Dawson (1953: 145), the type (Schmitt 120C-33) was in box 3648 and on slide 1489 in the Alan Hancock Foundation now at LAM.

Adjective A (Latin), pertaining to Mexico (Stearn 1992).
