Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Thalassiosira is Thalassiosira nordenskioeldii Cleve.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Minidiscus spinulatus (H.Takano) J.S.Park & J.H.Lee.
Type Information
Syntype localities: "Found in samples collected from downstream of the River Sumida, Tokyo, Suho-nada, Oita Prefecture, and Dokai Bay, Fukuoka Prefecture, in November 1980. Also from Lake Hamanako, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Atsumi Bay, Aichi Prefecture, in March 1981"; (Takano 1981: 34) Type: figs 17 and 23: (Takano 1981)
