The type species (holotype) of the genus Anabaena is Anabaena oscillarioides Bory ex Bornet & Flahault .

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dolichospermum circinale (Rabenhorst ex Bornet & Flahault) Wacklin, Hoffmann & Komárek.
