Nomenclatural note
Illegitimate: intended combination of Fucus bulbosus Hudson, 1778, illeg. Previously frequently cited as "Saccorhiza bulbosa (Hudson) Pylaie". Dr Michael J. Wynne writes (21 January 2004): %u201CThe Herbarium of the Univ. of Michigan is very fortunate to have this very rare work of Bachelot de la Pylaie (1830, "1829"), in which he described four new kelp genera, including Saccorhiza [nom. cons.]. He did designate the type species of Saccorhiza to be "Lam. bulbosa Lamx. However, he failed to make the transfer, that is, effect the combination of "Saccorhiza bulbosa". I am not sure who might have validated that combination, but it was not "Bach. Pyl." In accordance with the [ICN], all combinations based on Fucus bulbosus Hudson are in any case illegitimate. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
