Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Achnanthes is Achnanthes adnata Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Platessa conspicua (Ant.Mayer) Lange-Bertalot.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), with leaflets arranged on each side of a common petiole.
