Description
Holdfast flat conical in shape, 1.4-2 (up to 4) cm in diameter. Stem erect from the centre of holdfast. Stem cylindrical to weakly compressed, up to 7 mm in diameter, with smooth surface, 30 cm long or more when fully grown, usually simple, sometimes once or rarely twice branched. Cauline leaves, formed on the stem at early stage of development before formation of main branches, linear in shape with very short stipe usually about 1 cm long and 2 mm wide. Main branches alternating, issued in one plane at intervals of 1-3 cm, up to 1 m long, cylindrical with smooth surface. Leaves in the lower part of main branches linear in shape, up to 2 cm long and 5 mm wide with entire margins, without midrib, apex acute to obtuse and basal part narrowing to stipe. Leaves becoming narrower and shorter into filiform on the upper part of main branches and lateral branches. Cryptostomata dispersed on leaf surface. Vesicles spherical to slightly obovate, up to 7 mm in diameter, with round apex with cryptostomata on the vesicle. Stipe or vesicle about 2 mm long, much shorter than the diameter of vesicles. Alga dioecious. Male and female receptacles similar in shape, cylindrical, tapering toward apex, up to 11 mm long and 1.5 mm in diameter. Released oospores are 154.2 µm long (SD: 17.3, n = 24) and 103.5 µm wide (SD: 7.2, n = 24)
