Distributional note
The occurrence of this species in the Mediterranean Sea (where it has been reported either as Gelidium corneum or Gelidium sesquipedale) needs confirmation. Mediterranean authors have generally used the name Gelidium corneum to indicate Gelidium latifolium (synonym of Gelidium spinosum); see note in Furnari et al., (1999: 35). - (11 May 2006) - G.M.
