The type species (holotype) of the genus Chondria is Chondria tenuissima (Withering) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Palisada patentiramea (Montagne) Cassano, Sentíes, Gil-Rodríguez & M.T.Fujii.

Type locality: Mèze, Hérault, France; (Silva & al. 1996: 511) Lectotype: PC; MA 4256 (Furnari, Cormaci & Serio 2001: 345) Notes: Lectotype: MA 4256, right-hand specimen (designated by Boisset et al. 2000: 390, fig 1). Isolectotype: other specimen on sheet numbered MA 4257.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), obtuse, blunt (Stearn 1973).
