Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chondria is Chondria tenuissima (Withering) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Husseya rubra (Harvey) P.C.Silva.

Type locality: Western Australia (probably south of Fremantle); (Silva & al. 1996: 501) Holotype: Clifton; TCD, Herb. Harvey; (Womersley 2003: 422) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Gordon-Mills & Womersley (1984: 149).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), red (Stearn 1973).
