Description: Thallus prostrate and erect, branching opposite-distichous with irregular short and long branchlets, axes ecorticate, apical cell transversely divided. Cells uninucleate. Procarps subterminal on lateral branches, carpogonial branch 4-celled. Auxiliary cell, cut off from supporting cell leading to carposporophyte with irregularly elongate groups of carposporangia. Involucre lacking. Spermatangia in corymbose heads. Tetrasporangia single, terminal on branchlets, tetrahedrally divided.

Comments: Relationships uncertain, affinities with Ptiloteae and Antithamnieae noted (vide Kajimura 1989). Not common, but widespread including Mediterranean, Atlantic ocean, Japan, usually in warm seas often on rock and corals protected from exposure.
