Description: Thallus erect, epilithic, a few dm high, filiform and branched. Medulla multi-stranded, with meristematic region of the monopodially branched filaments intercalary, above and among the youngest ramifications. Medulla filaments terminated by an assimilatory filament. No internal downwardgrowing hyphae. Cortex of one kind of up to 3 mm long assimilatory filaments. Hyaline hairs absent. Plurilocular sporangia pod-shaped, multiseriate, borne at base of assimilatory filaments within cortex. Life history not known except for Cavassilas (1963) with confusing results. In tropical and warm-temperate seas of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
