Holotype species: Scageliopsis patens E.M.Wollaston

Original publication and holotype designation: Wollaston, E.M. (1981 '1980'). Descriptions of two new genera, Scageliopsis and Glandothamnus (Ceramiaceae, Rhodophyta), including five previously undescribed species from Southern Australia. Pacific Science 34(2): 109-127, 43 figs.

Description: Thallus small, erect, axes with regular whorls of 2-4 determinate branchlets from each cell, branchlets often initiated in irregular sequence at apices. Gland cells lateral on cells of branchlets. Procarps on basal (supporting) cells of branchlets, fertile axes continuing elongation as carposporophyte develops. Carposporangia in rounded groups. Spermatangia on short branches on branchlets. Tetrasporangia cruciately or tetrahedrally divided. Differs from Scagelia Wollaston in thallus morphology especially features of determinate branchlets.
