Description: Erect thallus, up to 15 cm high, polysiphonous with 5 pericentral cells, radially oriented, exogenous branches, irregularly spaced, many of which remain short, forming axes of highly branched laterals forming plume-like, tufted branches on the axes; some short branches may later develop indeterminate growth. Branchlets in 1/4-1/3 spirals on axes; determinate laterals terminating segments with 4 pericentrals, some becoming monosiphonous at apex. Pericentral cells dividing in tiers, the proximal cell in tier maintaining pit connection with axial cell; pericentral cells and derivatives also forming exterior cortication. Tetrasporangial stichidia on short branchlets, with polysiphonous stalks, cylindrical but somewhat bent and monosiphonous apices; 4 sporangia per fertile segment. Gametophytes unknown.
