Hyaloraphidium Pascher & Korshikov, 1931

Holotype species: Hyaloraphidium contortum Pascher & Korshikov

Original publication and holotype designation: Korshikov, A.A. (1931). Notizen über einige neue apochlorotische Algen. Archiv für Protistenkunde 74: 249-258, 22 figs.

Description: Thalli unicelllar comprised of elongate, strait to highly curved cells, 10-115 x 2.5 µm; one species sigmoid to helically twisted. Ends of cells often highly attenuate and pointed. Cells uninucleate; chloroplasts and pyrenoids absent. Asexual reproduction by aplanospores. Flagellated stages and sexual reproduction unknown. Hyaloraphidium mostly planktonic in eutrophic freshwater, reported only from Europe. Hyaloraphidium may be an artificial genus representing colorless forms of other genera (i.e., Monoraphidium, Ankistrodesmus).
