Chrysodidymus Prowse, 1962
Holotype species: Chrysodidymus synuroideus Prowse
Currently accepted name for the type species: Synura synuroidea (Prowse) Pusztai, Certnerová, Skaloudová & Skaloud
Original publication and holotype designation: Prowse, G.A. (1962). Further Malayan Freshwater Flagellata. Gardens' Bulletin Singapore 19(1): 105-145, 5 plates.
Description: Cells united by their bases in 2-celled colonies. Cells of varying shape, having an armour of siliceous scales, consisting of a perforated oval plate with a short apical spine. Two chloroplasts without pyrenoids; one posterior storage vesicle. Two flagella of almost equal length, covered with small linear or clavate scales. Reproduction by longitudinal division of single cells. Sexual reproduction and stomatocysts unknown. Bourrelly's view (1968) that it belongs to the (dubious) genus Catenochrysis (Chlorodesmos) cannot be accepted. It is closely related toSynura and might be transferred to that genus Found in fresh water, from widely separated parts of the world (Malaysia, North America, South America, Greenland).

Taxonomic status: This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Synura.
Gender: This genus name is currently treated as neuter.
Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Pusztai, M., Certnerová, D., Skaloudová, M. & Skaloud, P. (2016). Elucidating the phylogeny and taxonomic position of the genus Chrysodidymus Prowse (Chrysophyceae, Synurales). Cryptogamie Algologie 37(4): 297-307.

Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
