Chlorobotrys Bohlin, 1901
Holotype species: Chlorobotrys regularis (West) Bohlin
Original publication and holotype designation: Bohlin, K. (1901). Étude sur la flore algologique d'eau douce des Açores. Bihang till Kongl. Svenska vetenskaps-akademiens handlingar 27 Afd. III(4): 1-85, 1 pl.
Description: Spherical unicells, mostly greater than 10µm in diameter (up to 16_m), usually associated in pairs. Cell wall smooth, thin, flexible, in one piece; surrounded by lamellate mucilage. Single lobed yellow-green chloroplast, with one to three large polyhedral pyrenoids joined to the inner face of the chloroplast by a narrow stalk and surrounded by flat vesicles of lamellate material (typical storage reserve of the class, possibly carbohydrate); C. polychloris Pascher may be a form of C. regularis with a more divided chloroplast. Major xanthophyll is violaxanthin (again typical for the class). Motile cells not known. Widespread in acidic waters; very common in Sphagnum bogs.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
