Pseudoschizomeris Deason & Bold, 1960
Holotype species: Pseudoschizomeris caudata Deason & Bold
Original publication and holotype designation: Deason, T.R. & Bold, H.C. (1960). Phycological studies. I. Exploratory studies of Texas soil algae. Vol. 6022 pp. 1-72, 131 figs.: University of Texas Publication.
Description: Filaments relatively long, unbranched, and free-floating, despite development of rudimentary holdfast. Juveniles usually uniseriate, later, longitudinal, oblique and transverse divisions, produce irregularly multiseriate filaments. Juveniles with thin cell wall, in aging filaments becoming thicker, causing cells to appear embedded at random in matrix. Cells in uniseriate filaments basically cylindrical, later also (sub)globose. Cell uninucleate with single, parietal, plate-like, often lobed chloroplasts extending whole cell length, encircling more than half the cell, with one or occasionally two pyrenoids. Asexual reproduction by quadriflagellate zoospores formed singly per cell, liberated through pore in cell wall. Zoospores obovoid with 4 anterior contractile vacuoles and posterior, parietal, cup-shaped chloroplast with distinct stigma and one pyrenoid. Holdfast formed at anterior portion of settled zoospore. Method of sexual reproduction unknown. Pseudoschizomeris found once, spontaneously growing in culture prepared from soil (Texas). Pseudoschizomeris regarded as intermediate between Ulothrix (parietal chloroplast) and Prasiola (multiseriate growth habit). Absence of information on morphological plasticity and ultrastructure makes true status difficult to establish.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
