Original publication and holotype designation: Moestrup, Ø. (1984). Further studies on Nephroselmis and its allies (Prasinophyceae). II. Mamiella gen. nov., Mamiellaceae fam. nov., Mamiellales ord. nov.. Nordic Journal of Botany 4: 109-121.
Description: Bean-shaped flagellates with two flagella of almost equal length inserted ventrally. The cell contains a single parietal chloroplast with a pyrenoid. Stigma located on the pyrenoid surface. The cell further contains ejectile bodies, probably mucocysts. All cell surfaces are covered with unmineralized scales. The flagella bear two nearly opposite rows of hair-shaped scales interspersed among rows of spiderweb scales each with a single anterior spine. The cell body is covered with two types of spineless spiderweb scales. Sexual reproduction unknown.
