Original publication and holotype designation: Heynig, H. (1991). Oocystopsis n.g. – eine neue Gattung der Chlorophyceae (Chlorellales, Oocystaceae). Oocystopsis n.g. – a new genus of Chlorophyceae (Chlorellales, Oocystaceae) . Archiv für Protistenkunde 139: 291-294, 7 figs.

Description: Cells occasionally solitary, usually 208 within an ovoid to spherical mucilage envelope up to 40 &m in diameter which bears numerous superficial granulations. Cells ovoid, 8-12-(14) x 6-8-(11.2) &m, the cell walls smooth. Chloroplasts 1-2, parietal with one pyrenoid. Asexual reproduction by (2)-4-8 autospores. Sexual reproduction and flagellated stages unknown. Oocystopsis, planktonic, known only from freshwater in Germany and Hungary. Differs from Oocystis in having granulations on the mucilage envelope. Similar to Granulocystis and Granulocystopsis but lacks granulate cell walls characteristic of these two genera. Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
