Poritectolithus A.Kleijne, 1991
Holotype species: Poritectolithus poritectum (B.R.Heimdal) A.Kleijne
Original publication and holotype designation: Kleijne, A. (1991). Holococcolithophorids from the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean. Marine Micropaleontology 17(1/2): 1-76, 20 pls., 12 figs, 3 tables.
The most recent alteration to this page was made on 2021-10-08 by M.D. Guiry.
Taxonomic status: This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Gender: This genus name is currently treated as masculine.
Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Jordan, R.W., Cros, L. & Young, J.R. (2004). A revised classification scheme for living haptophytes. Micropaleontology 50(Suppl. 1): 55-79.
Comments: Following the recent observations that many holococcolithophores are phases in the life cycles of heterococcolithophores, the family Calyptrosphaeraceae is now known to be polyphyletic, so Jordan et al. (2005) recommend abandoning its use. However, until all or most holococcolith-bearing taxa can be transferred into other existing families, they consider it wise to keep them together.
