Taxonomic status: This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Gender: This genus name is currently treated as feminine.

Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Jordan, R.W., Cros, L. & Young, J.R. (2004). A revised classification scheme for living haptophytes. Micropaleontology 50(Suppl. 1): 55-79.

Comments: Following the recent observations that many holococcolithophores are phases in the life cycles of heterococcolithophores, the family Calyptrosphaeraceae is now known to be polyphyletic, so Jordan et al. (2005) recommend abandoning its use. However, until all or most holococcolith-bearing taxa can be transferred into other existing families, they consider it wise to keep them together. Heimdal (1997: 752) records this genus as a member of the Order Coccosphaerales, Family Calyptrosphaeraceae.
