Description: Thalli microscopic and unicellular with spherical protoplast embedded in four or eight sided polygonal envelope 13-18 µm long and a maximum of 15 µ;m wide. Cell walls smooth with slightly developed equatorial ridge and blunt cell ends. Contractile vacuole present in young cells. Cells uninucleate; chloroplast single and parietal; pyrenoid single when young, two when mature. Asexual reproduction by autospores or biflagellate, egg-shaped zoospores. Sexual reproduction unknown. Octogoniella epiphytic on the green cells of Sphagnum leaves; known only from Czechoslovakia.
