Streptochlora J.B.Petersen & J.B.Hansen, 1960
Holotype species: Streptochlora moniliformis J.B.Petersen & J.B.Hansen
Original publication and holotype designation: Petersen, J.B. & Hansen, J.B. (1960). On some neuston organisms. 1. Botanisk Tidsskrift 56(3): 197-234.
Description: Plants consisting of unbranched uniseriate or occasionally multiseriate filaments, from 3-7 cells in length. Cells uninucleate, cylindrical or swollen and bead-like, each with parietal chloroplast and starch grains but without pyrenoids. Asexual reproduction by zoospores produced in globular cells, almost 200 per cell, each with a stigma. No information on flagellar number. Sexual reproduction unknown. Only known from the surface film of lake in Denmark. It has been suggested that this little-known genus is perhaps a germination stage of Leptosira or a form of Gloeoplax.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
