Vicicitus F.H.Chang, 2012
Holotype species: Vicicitus globosus (Y.Hara & Chihara) F.H.Chang
Original publication and holotype designation: Chang, F.H., McVeagh, M., Gall, M. & Smith, P. (2012). Chattonella globosa is a member of Dictyochophyceae: reassignment to Vicicitus gen. nov., based on molecular phylogeny, pigment composition, morphology and life history. Phycologia 51(4): 403-420.
Description: No siliceous form. Prevalent is naked form; at times amoeboid form emerged as part of the sexual reproduction. When disturbed amoeboid form noted to change swiftly from amoeboid to the normal globose, naked form. Relatively large cell (45–60 µm in diameter) with unequal flagella. Naked form exhibiting protruding mucocysts on the cell periphery. Lacking pyrenoid in the chloroplast. Containing approximately 10 Golgi bodies in the naked cell. Life history consisting of a multinucleate stage. With chlorophylls a and c1+2; chl. c3 absent. Major carotenoids: fucoxanthin, 190- butanoyl-oxyfucoxanthin, 190-hexanoyl-oxyfucoxanthin, and zeaxanthin; no diadinoxanthin. Sequences of COI, ITS, partial LSU and SSU rDNA separate this species from the rest of the siliceous members of the order Dictyochales.

and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
