Description: Amphidinium (sensu lato)-like athecate photosynthetic dinoflagellate. Cells composed of a short epicone and a large hypocone. Cingulum completely Bencircling the cell. Acrobase shaped like a magnifying glass: ‘Spinoid apparatus’ (pair of long fibrous structures) extending from the circular apical groove to the vicinity of the nucleus.
