Original publication and holotype designation: Onuma, R., Watanabe, K. & Horiguchi, T. (2015). Pellucidodinium psammophilum gen & sp. nov. and Nusuttodinium desymbiontum sp. nov. (Dinophyceae), two novel heterotrophs closely related to kleptochloroplastidic dinoflagellates. Phycologia 54(2): 192-209.
Description: Athecate genus with dorsoventrally flattened cells having a smaller episome and a large hyposome, with slightly ascending cingulum, and sulcal extension. Nuclear chambers. No chloroplasts, no stigma.
