Type locality: "Miilky Way", coast of the Republic of Palau; (Miyashita & al. 2003: 1249) Type: 10 August 1993; From Lissoclinum patella Gottschaldt; (Miyashita & al. 2003: 1249) Notes: Type strain: Isolated from algal suspension squeezed out from Lissoclinum patella Gottschaldt. Acaryochloris marina MBIC11017. Habitat: Mainly as a symbiont in colonial ascidians.

Adjective (Latin), growing in the sea (Stearn 1983).

Invalid: lacking Latin diagnosis, illustration, and designated type, thus not validly published under Botanical Code; described as "Cyanobacteria" under Bacterial Code. However, not valid under the Bacteriological Code "As of 1 January 2001, the description of a new species, or new combinations previously represented by viable cultures must include the designation of a type strain (see Rule 18a), and a viable culture of that strain must be deposited in at least two publicly accessible culture collections in different countries from which subcultures must be available. The designations allotted to the strain by the culture collections should be quoted in the published description.
