The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Yuzurua poiteaui var. gemmifera (Harvey) M.J.Wynne.
