The type species (holotype) of the genus Zygnema is Zygnema cruciatum (Vaucher) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hallasia reticulata (Hallas) Rosenvinge ex Curzda.

Adjective (Latin), reticulate, netted, marked with a network (Stearn 1983).
