Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fragilaria is Fragilaria pectinalis (O.F.Müller) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neodelphineis silenda (M.H.Hohn & J.Hellerman) N.Desianti & M.Potapova.

Type locality: Sabine River, Orange co., Texas; (INA 1996) Holotype: fig. 176: 8 December 1953; ANSP; slide GC8035 (Desianti, Potapova & Beals 2015: 114, table 1) Notes: Louisiana, Calcasieu Parish, Sabine River, c. 100 yards above Intracoastal Waterway, from c. 25 yards above cypress grove to c. 150 yards below grove, west side of Cutoff Island (30.057011°N, 93.717454°W) in table 1 but Sabine River, Texas on p.110(Desianti et al. 2015).
Origin of Species Name
Participle (Latin), which is to be silent.
