The type species (lectotype) of the genus Staurastrum is Staurastrum paradoxum Meyen ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Staurodesmus subunguiferus (F.E.Fritsch & M.F.Rich) Thomasson ex Coesel & Van Geest.
