This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Spongonema tomentosum (Hudson) Kützing.

According to Hoek (1963: 94) Hudson’s material partly represented Cladophora albida. Van den Hoek (1963: 94) notes a synonomy between this species and Conferva albida Hudson. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
