Taxonomic note
Ueno et al. (2005) propose restricting the genus Prototheca to the four species: P. moriformis Krüger, P. stagnora (Cooke) Pore, P. ulmea Pore and P. zopfii Krüger. - (08 August 2011) - G.M. Guiry
Usage note
Prototheca wickerhamii is a rare cause of systemic infection in humans. While some cases occur in previously healthy individuals, others are associated with a variety of pre-existing diseases. Amphotericin B is effective in treatment. - (14 August 2009) - M.D. Guiry
