This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cladophora sericea (Hudson) Kützing.

Type Information
Lectotype locality: Isle of Sheppey, Kent, England; (Silva & al. 1996: 780) Holotype: OXF; Marine material of Conferva trichoides virgata, sericea in Dillenius’s herb (Hoek 1963) Notes: Silva et al. recommend consulting van den Hoek (1963: 77) for further information regarding the lectotype locality of this species.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), sericeous, silky with long straight close-pressed glossy hairs (Stearn 1983).
